Joining Ginny at small things, as always—
Oh, these days in between Julia's birthday and the beginning of December...it always feels so strange, with the mad-birthday-making behind me and the mad-elving yet to come. This year, the birthday-making isn't even quite behind me yet; we are hosting some of her friends here on Sunday for a party to celebrate her birthday, and there is still so much to do...
On the needles... Julia's birthday sweater wasn't finished in time for her birthday, but since we spent the day in the car driving back to Buffalo from Connecticut it was hardly missed. My goal was to have it finished before her party so she could wear it then, and it has one more button band to go before I can wash and block it.
In the meantime, I went searching through my bureau drawers for some yarn for my December knitting. All of this yarn came back with me from Maine in September; I purchased the two skeins from Good Karma Farm at the Common Ground Fair with a very specific gift in mind, and the two Malabrigo merino worsted from Bee's in Bar Harbor for no reason other than that I love working with such soft, squishy yarn and I never can seem to pass up a purple colorway. If all goes as planned, they'll both be gifts in the hands of loved ones in a month's time.
I would love to share with you my finished Wee Woodland Wuzzies, but...well, they didn't turn out so well. And by "not so well" I mean "so horribly I couldn't possibly send them along for the swap"; I had to back out of it this year, which makes me very sad.
On the nightstand... Nothing. I am actually reading absolutely nothing right now. I thumbed through a few issues of Martha Stewart Living while visiting with George's family at Thanksgiving, and next week I'll start to bring out our Christmas books to read with the children, but at this very moment my nightstand is curiously empty, and it feels very strange.
What are you knitting and reading this week?
