We've done very little in the garden this week besides add some extra mulch and hope that last Tuesday's snow and freezing temperatures didn't do too much damage to the seeds we planted last week.
But in spite of our inaction, our garden has been so active this week. Every day it seems we notice a little more green: something new growing among the remains of last year's garden.
Chives are coming up in our herb spiral, thick and full. In the front yard, lady's mantle and angelica, betony and St. John's wort, lovage and sweet woodruff. The elderberries are just beginning to see new growth, while in the backyard it seems like the blueberries have doubled in size overnight. And the garlic just keeps on growing...
The next few weeks will be busy: building and planting, cleaning up some more beds and seeing more of what weathered the cold this winter...and what didn't.
How does your garden grow?
